How to Make Delicious Pumpkin Pie
Fall is the perfect time for pumpkin pie, a tasty dessert that’s a classic for Thanksgiving and gatherings. Making your own pumpkin pie is easier than you might think, and it’s a fun way to impress your family. I’ll guide you through the steps to create a delicious pumpkin pie from scratch!
Ingredients

For the Pie Crust
- - 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- - ½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- - ¼ teaspoon salt
- - 4-5 tablespoons ice water
For the Pumpkin Filling
- - 1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin purée** (or you can use about 2 cups of fresh pumpkin, cooked and puréed) Use a blender to purée
- - ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- - ½ cup granulated sugar
- - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- - ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- - ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- - ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- - ¼ teaspoon salt**
- - 3 large eggs can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
Making the Pie Crust
1. Combine the Dry Ingredients: - In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
2. Add the Butter: -Cut in the chilled butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Add Ice Water: - Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. You may not need all the water.
4. Chill the Dough: -Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preparing the Pumpkin Filling
1. Mix the Sugars and Spices: -In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin purée, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt. Mix well until there are no lumps.
2. Add the Eggs: -Beat the eggs separately and then add them to the pumpkin mixture, stirring until combined.
3. Add in the Milk: - Gradually mix in the evaporated milk until you have a smooth filling.
Assembling the Pie
1. Preheat the Oven:- Preheat your oven to 425°F
2. Roll Out the Dough:-On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Carefully place it into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it into the edges.
3. Fill the Pie:- Pour the pumpkin filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
4. Bake:-Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for 45–55 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
1. Cool the Pie - Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least two - three hours. This helps set the pie.
